Welcome to Accoyos of Virginia in the beautiful and historic Shenandoah. We are the primary caretakers of these wonderful animals. With the only outside help being a young man who assists with feeding and pasture clean-up, we have a strong working knowledge of each animal’s behavior and medical history. With our involvement nothing is left to chance and there is little opportunity for anything to fall through the cracks.

Accoyos of Virginia, LLC was brought to fruition in 2005. Since getting into the alpaca business in 2000 with full Peruvian alpacas, and seeing that quality sells, we decided to focus on full Accoyo. Our goal is to continue the benefits of genetic gain begun by Don Julio Barreda’s breeding program at Estancia Accoyo. With this recent crop of babies, we think he would be proud!

Much thought goes into each breeding. We refuse to be static and are constantly look for new Accoyo genetics to improve each generation. Breeding our genetically superior herdsires to our high quality hembras, has produced healthy crias with amazing brightness, extreme density and fiber architecture that brings new meaning to the word “crimp”. They are all an outstanding representation of what we have set out to accomplish.

Ashland Alpacas was formed in September 2007 with the purchase of five alpacas: three pregnant females, one cria* and one neutered male. In just two years, we have grown to 14 alpacas, four of which are currently pregnant.

We are a small farm that enjoys working with these truly amazing animals. Our goal is to provide quality animals and excellent customer service. We strive to learn all there is to know about alpacas. That’s why we visit larger alpaca farms in states as far away as Oregon and attend numerous shows, farm seminars, fecal clinics, neonatal clinics and fleece workshops. My dream is to go to Peru and actually see the Andes Mountains where these animals originated.

Our alpaca adventure began in the fall of 2005. With a little arm twisting of my husband, we decided to visit a local alpaca farm. We were hooked. After a couple more farm visits and some researching, we said to ourselves, “We could do this. Let’s do it!” So we jumped right in and purchased our foundation herd and started building a barn and fence. All of the hard work paid off when our alpacas came home the next spring. So sit back – explore our website – give us a call- we would love to sit down and introduce you to the wonderful world of the alpaca lifestyle and ownership.

In the 113 combined years of living, we have learned the hard way that there is a vast difference in living fully in the moments we are blessed with as opposed to living for the moments that blast past us like a freight train.

Being blessed with a wonderful herd of richly colored Peruvian stock we are working to have the opportunity to retire much sooner than the government says we can.

Our herd covers some of the best Peruvian bloodlines from the Peruvian farms of Accoyo, Alianza, Macaccoyoc and other notable farms in Peru. We have very good stock and are now breeding for density and fleece that contains low modulation (guard hair) to get a better yield at shearing with less skirting and less fiber that cannot be milled.

We “met” alpacas in the late 90’s and started our herd in 2001. From the beginning, our interest has been in raising calm, healthy animals with fiber that makes wonderful, naturally-colored yarns. Together, we provide the care and maintenance of our herd of approximately 30 colored huacayas, with our chores ranging from daily care, to deworming, birthing, and shearing. Joanie keeps weaving projects going on her looms and Ed works on pedigrees, genetics, and breeding combinations. Our colors range from beige to brown, and grey to black, but our specialty is the fawn appaloosa with darker spots. Fireweed Farm Alpacas is a small breeding operation with Big Ideas! Although we, Teri Phipps and David Schiefestein, only own a relatively small number of our own alpacas, we act as a broker for many of the other small breeders who we’ve helped over the years to start their own breeding programs. By helping our clients sell the production of their own breeding programs, we can help ensure their success in the alpaca industry and also offer prospective buyers the sort of selection that can usually be found only with a much large breeder.

A Commitment to Education: For more than sixteen years, Fireweed has pioneered beginning and continuing education for breeders, with classes like hands-on fiber education, TTeam Training© clinics, and neonatal labs and herd management seminars hosted by Dr. LaRue Johnson of Colorado State University. The couple has written a very popular book that is the companion manual for their “Alpaca Buyer’s Clinic: Getting Started with the Building Blocks of the Alpaca Industry.” In 2009, Teri debuted a new fiber & shearing festival “Lets Get Naked”© and “Toes to Clothes”©. With such continuing education, as well as pre- and post-sale consultative services, Teri and David are committed to their customers’ success.

Flying Pony Alpacas is a family of experienced business owners who have fallen in love with the alpaca lifestyle. We are an odd family for sure. We consist of professional people who were happy to give up corporate America to join the alpaca lifestyle. Bob Fish is the owner, and our biggest alpaca fan. If it “humms” and looks at him with those big eyes and puffy head he is a goner. He spends all his time on herd health and caring directly for the alpacas. Ryan and Christy Schwenk have three small children and gave up a large construction business to spend time learning, nurturing and raising their family around these wonderful animals.

“Flying Pony Alpacas – Where YOU Come First.” is the mantra of everyone at Flying Pony. What is your plan? Only you can answer that question, but at FPA we have the experience and are ready to offer help with the development of your business plan. Are you interested in setting up your own alpaca farm? For over 15 years Heronwood Farm of Upperville, Virginia has been home to outstanding Thoroughbred Horses. The idea of raising alpacas was spawned by the Farm’s desire to diversify their livestock holdings. Heronwood wanted to include an animal that would be profitable and fun for all family members to raise. The ease of care and aesthetic beauty, coupled with the investment return potential made the decision easy when it came time for Heronwood Farm to invest in ALPACAS.

Our investment in alpacas began in March 2000. The colorful herd of huacaya alpacas have diversified bloodlines originating from Bolivia, Chile and Peru. The foundation females were specifically selected for our breeding program based on the merits of fine fiber quality, quantity, superior conformation, excellent genetics and vibrant colors. These characteristics are vital to producing desirable offspring for breeding, sale and show ring success.

As many alpaca owners have experienced, we fell in love at first sight. Looking through a magazine, my wife Marty was enchanted by a photo of an alpaca. In an instant we knew that we wanted to raise these delightful animals. In 1998, Mountain Meadows’ herd began with two bred females. Now, our Huacayas reward us daily with the pleasures of life with Alpacas.

Our small farm is located in Goode, Virginia, to the northeast of Bedford. In addition to our alpacas, residents include a livestock watchdog, Reina, a watch-llama named Hazel, a barn cat, and assorted indoor cats and dogs. We invite you to visit our farm and allow us to introduce our wonderful alpacas to you.

South River Alpaca Farm is located in Caroline County, Va. We purchased the homestead in 2004, which was 14 acres of completely run down and almost falling to pieces.
Then in late 2005 we were watching TV and saw an ad on Alpacas that really caught our eye. The more we looked the more interested we became. After investigated the cost and improvements need on the farm for the Alpacas, we decided that with small steps we could achieve our dream. In May of 2006 we purchased our first 3 females and 3 male. We had to get things rolling fast.

To our own amazement the farm is come together rather nicely. We have a three-sided walk-in and a beautiful barn with 4 stalls. We are very proud of our farm and of how far we have come. Please call for a visit to our farm and learn more about Alpacas.

Woodlynne Farm Alpacas is home to 44 alpacas and 3 guard llamas who religiously protect our herd in various paddocks. We breed and raise quality ARI registered Huacaya alpacas. As were are approaching retirement we wanted to get into a lifestyle that would continue to be rewarding as we slowed down the pace of our careers and we have both found that we could not be happier with the decision to raise alpacas. Although not fully retired, alpacas have become our life and something we have found that we can do together and continue to find a sense of achievement with these wonderful animals as we go into plans of retiring from a fast-paced corporate life.
